I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, hold a post-masters certification in Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling, completed Basic Family Mediation certification training, and am a lifelong learner. I continue to take courses, attend workshops and other training to ensure my skills are up-to-date and I am always well-prepared to support my clients. With over 25 years of experience working, my areas of expertise include working with adolescents, families, young adults and couples in a counseling relationship in the areas of career planning, improving relationships, reducing stress and anxiety, dealing with grief and loss, child custody issues, parenting issues, conflict resolution, anger management, domestic violence, and more.
My passion is helping people achieve their dreams and live happy, fulfilling lives. Counseling is providing support to individuals who reach out, helping them set goals; recognize and address barriers; examine how they are getting in their own way and how they are letting others impede their success and happiness. I enjoy helping my clients set goals and take action steps to move in the direction they want to go. My counseling style is supportive and non-judgmental, helping the client move from being problem focused to being solution focused. My goal is to help clients find a therapeutic process that works best for them, depending on the issue they are dealing with and their unique personalities and needs.
Faith is an individual expression of hope for a better tomorrow based on our foundational religious beliefs. My faith was developed throughout my childhood as I, along with 9 siblings, was raised in a non-denominational community church filled with some of the best human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Bible studies helped us make sense of scriptures and how we could use them for comfort and decision-making when faced with obstacles, but more importantly taught me the sanctity of life for every human being and how we should treat others as equals. Perhaps that is why counseling was such a perfect fit for me. My approach is always to help each individual realize their own value and strengths, helping them focus on solutions, not problems. When clients enter into therapy they are unhappy with the direction their life is taking and are looking for solutions for a happier, more fulfilling life. I use solution focused theory, reality therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, transactional analysis, and family systems theories to help clients examine their beliefs, behaviors, decision-making and interactions with others and how these are helping or hurting themselves and others in relation to the goals for fulfilling relationship vision they have for a successful, productive life. To incorporate faith I would interweave scriptures that have provided guidance in my life, that I believe would be uplifting and relevant to their situation, and another tool to help them achieve the positive change they seek.
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. Congratulations for reaching out for help. This is a first big step in getting the support you need to gain power over your struggles and to begin living the life you have always dreamed of living.
I look forward to working with you in this new journey.
