About Me

Hi! I am Beverly, an Alabama based Licensed Professional Counselor since 1998. I provide therapy to clients in the states of Alabama and Florida. I believe in the power of therapy and how it can provide tools, techniques and teachings to transform seemingly insurmountable challenges. Good therapy coupled with God’s Grace can transform hard places and roadblock’s into circumstances that can be addressed and moved through and beyond. I am here to help you navigate a way forward where there is help, hope, and healing. Together we can move forward, not just to survive but to thrive. In therapy, it is likely that we will laugh a lot - and we may cry also. Each of us is different and multifaceted. I am interested in seeing the real you shine and helping you to see that too. I offer the warmth of an understanding heart, a mind trained to wield the most effective tools of behavioral science and an experiential reliance on God‘s mighty Word. God has created me with a love for learning and a passion for people. I have studied psychology and scripture with a ferocity that comes from the deep knowing that I am using gifts that God gave me for His glory. I know God has a plan for me and I know that He also has a plan for you. Together we will work to discover how to step into that promise.

I have three degrees in the behavioral sciences obtained from the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB): a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and an Ed.S in Counseling. I currently operate a private counseling practice serving people with a broad range of difficulties, including: anxiety, depression, grief, addictions, trauma, relationship issues, caregiving, and other life challenges. Prior to private work, I practiced in school-based and mental health settings providing counseling and psychological testing for children, teens, adults, and families.

In my career I’ve served on professional counseling boards and presented at professional counseling conferences. I’ve designed multiple therapeutic intervention programs for public K-12 schools and have written grants to fund them. At UAB I’ve served on the Master’s in Counseling program admissions committee, co-taught master’s level counseling classes, helped develop the Community Counseling Clinic and presented at continuing education events for other LPCs. I’ve obtained post-graduate certification in Psychometry (psychological testing and assessment) at UAB and I’ve taken master’s level classes in Biblical Counseling at Birmingham Theological Seminary. I am currently training at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia in advanced practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’m a mental health blogger and speaker. I’m a member of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies and the American Counseling Association. I’m on Alabama‘s leadership team for Moms in Prayer International. I will always go the extra mile to keep learning and serving because I know good therapy works.

I used two primary treatment modalities, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and biblical counseling, to treat a broad range of difficulties. I care deeply about providing the best possible therapy for my clients and find that using CBT in combination with biblical counseling provides a powerful combination: the best behavioral medicine and the limitless power of Christ.

Why CBT? According to the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, “CBT is a highly researched treatment that has gathered more evidence in support of it than any other form of psychotherapy, and, as a result, has been argued to be the gold standard of psychotherapy.”

Why biblical counseling? David Powlison, former Senior Editor of the Journal of Christian Counseling, says it best, “nothing compares to scripture in making sense of the troubles and struggles of life.”

Throughout my career it has been my great privilege to work with people from all walks of life facing all kinds of challenges. In my own life, God has restored joy and purpose from pain. I am so honored to help others find that as well.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Beverly Ward. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Faithful Counseling might be different.

Beverly is acting, skilled, and extremely knowledgeable. I chose her because she connects God's word with her profession. She listens and she offers very wise, practical advice and solutions in a very warm kind way.

Beverly is an excellent therapist. She listens, but she also gives useful feedback. I’ve had both the counselors who spoke the whole time and made me wonder “who is in therapy?” And the ones that made me wonder if they were listening to me or just letting me talk. I feel a good connection with Beverly.
