About me

Hello! My name is Chavon and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. I have over 5 years experience working in the mental health field. I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, partial care, outpatient, in-home, and individual sessions. Although that seems like a mouthful, it simply means that I have had experience working with a broad range and severity of clinical issues. I have the most experience working with depression, anxiety, family/relationship conflicts, grief, and self esteem/love. I also have experience working with intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral issues and autism .

My dedication to the field of mental health stems from my personal experience with it. I had the personal experience of losing a child. When this happened a counselor helped me put the pieces of my life back together. I found purpose in this experience and knew that helping others through this painful process was a way I could give back.
I have also personally overcome some mental health challenges, too. I know firsthand that getting help can be a challenge. There is still so much stigma around having mental health issues, the process for getting help can be overwhelming, and it can feel so frustrating and lonely. However, I also know from experience how much life can change for the better when you find support and take steps towards taking care of yourself!

I use a person-centered, self compassionate, multicultural, and integrative approach in treatment. This means I begin where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your individual cultural identities and lifestyle choices impact your experience. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. However, I do incorporate more "classical" approaches to counseling as well.

I would describe my style as warm and supportive, and I am ready to help you tackle your struggle head-on. Collaboration is important - together we can work on establishing concrete goals and steps for you to help overcome your current problems. If you are looking for quick fixes, I am not the best counselor to work with. I believe in taking time and working on wellness slowly, holistically, and consistently. Just as physical health takes time and consistency, so does mental health. I look forward to helping you in any way I can!

Chavon is kind, supportive, and an extremely good listener. I’ve enjoyed every session with her and have always walked away feeling better and more in tune with myself. I highly recommend her and she’s one of the best counselors I’ve had.

Chavon saved my life. After my partner of 7 years abandoned me, I didn’t have no will to live or any sense of who I was or even my purpose. Chavon came in sent by the angels at better help and picked me up the floor. She helped me learn how to put each broken piece together without judgement. Chavon helped me come back to life stronger, with self love and a strong idea of who I am and what I must do. Chavon is a blessing on this app, in her professional career and anywhere she is. I am deeply thankful for now I have so much to live for, and all those have my name on it. Thank you chavon for taking me through a journey of healing and self discovery
