I consider it a sacred honor and privilege to walk with people through life difficulties, identify strengths and find solutions, all through a caring and supportive relationship.
My work experience started with military service. I have 15 years’ experience teaching college psychology courses, all while helping individuals achieve life goals as a life coach. The past four years have been most satisfying career years as I transitioned to full time counseling.
I earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in 2009. I also have certificates in family systems dynamics, life-coaching, and I am a nationally certified diabetes coach and trained in EMDR therapy. My counseling style interweaves wellness, solution focused, acceptance and commitment, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I’ve worked extensively with individuals through various levels of mental illness, families, and couples.

Written on Jul 28, 2022 after therapy with David for 1 year and 3 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety
David has a keen ability to spot the source of many learned behaviors that are counterproductive and serve as obstacles to living a healthier and happier life. He's a great listener and has given me valuable tools as well as a new perspective to assist with getting me out of my default patterns of behavior. As a Veteran, former first responder, and harboring childhood trauma, David has definitely given me some introspection and is offering techniques that help to bridge who I am today with those things that happened in the past. It doesn't hurt that David is just a good all around guy as well, makes him easy to talk to.

Dr.Sperry has been awesome to work with. I come out of conversations with him with greater confidence and a sense of direction. Even though I didn’t necessarily sign up with BetterHelp with a single precise reason, it has been beneficial overall to still take the time to meet with Dr.Sperry. I really appreciate his willingness to have casual conversation and “go with the flow” if you will. Thank you!
