Dayna Coombs

About Me

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience working with a variety of people in various ages and stages of life. At least half of my practice has been with singles and individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse issues, relationship problems, and self-esteem issues. I have also worked with many people who struggle with trauma and abuse as well as borderline personality disorder. I have considerable experience working with couples in marital counseling as well as parents (married or single) looking for help with strategies on how to parent their children and influence behavior.

I am a faithful Christian and have been all of my life. I grew up in a religious family where family life revolved around learning and following the teachings of Christ and I have continued with that lifestyle and belief as an adult . I believe, with my whole heart, in the power of the Atonement, and learning how to turn life's challenges over to our loving Heavenly Father. I will seek to understand your personal belifs, and help you learn how to incorporate your belief and faith in God into our counseling sessions, according to whatever level you desire.

I believe one of the most important components in having a successful therapy experience is the ability to establish a rapport with my clients based on respect, honesty and openness. If you do not feel comfortable with me or see me as competent and capable, it will be much harder for you to be vulnerable, accept any assignments or challenges I may give you, or trust me to guide you through a sometimes painful or difficult process.

Therapy is a partnership. I am hear to help you with whatever concerns you have. If I see possibilities for other things that could be getting in the way of your goals I will bring them up, but ultimately it will be for you to decide if it is something you want to work through. If you want my opinion or advice, I will give it to you. I am not a therapist who will sit quietly and say "ummm hmmmm" or "how does that make you feel"... I may invite you to look at a situation from a different perspective, challenge you to approach a problem in a new way, or suggest follow up assignments for you to do after our sessions. I believe that success comes from learning how to do something different than what has been done before.

If want help to face things you have been avoiding, find new ways to tackle old problems, are tired of dealing with the same old problems and want a different life for yourself, I can help you. Often the most difficult thing about therapy is just making the decision to get started in the first place. Congratulations for taking this step! I look forward to hearing from you.

Dayne is gifted in saying back to me, what I have said, with a clarity I hadn't seen. I feel Dayna has the heart for this job she does. I appreciate her.

Dayna is super nice and a really good therapist, in my opinion. Since I was 14 I have had 4.5 therapists and she has been the best by far. She is christian and can speak to that very well, but she isn't judgmental. She's funny and is not afraid to call me out when I'm being a bit defensive or I'm making light of positive things that I've done. However, she does this in a way that makes me laugh and loosen up rather than get defensive.
I can tell her about things that people I care about, have done to me to hurt me, and she takes the time to understand the nuances and why I still want them in my life. She's understanding, thorough, and kind.
Also, she has and adorable pup!
