Denise Dickinson

About Me

I am a mental health counselor in Missouri with over 15 years of experience working as a psychotherapist and life coach. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief and loss, OCD, and relationship issues. My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe treating everyone with respect, empathy, and compassion. My approach is cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, person-centered, motivational, acceptance and commitment, and family systems counseling. I believe counseling is a team approach and will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific goals. I say I am a person of faith , not religion. I believe in God's word and accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour in the third grade. I believe scripture is still relevant today in gaining better understanding of ourselves and solving our problems. I strive to live in my life in what Jesus said was the two greatest commandments of "Love the Lord your God with all your hear, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself." I believe Jesus stated these were the two greatest commandments for a reason and believe an approach of love is the best. My experience includes working as a mental health case manager with children and their families, a school counselor to all grades, and a professional counselor in substance use treatment, correctional settings, and community mental health centers. I am passionate and have an avid interest in how our brains and behaviors connect. I am married and have two adult children and one teenager. Presently I stay at home full time assisting my husband who was injured overseas during his service in the military. My hobbies include reading, cooking and DIY crafts. I also enjoy spending time with family and supporting their hobbies and interests.

Denise has been able to help me get through trauma from my past as well as how to deal with a R.A.D. child in our house. I would highly recommend her to others in similar situations.

Denise has become one of the biggest parts of my personal healing and growth process. Not only does she listen to me, but she helps me identify issues, gives me ways to address them one by one, and offers biblical support along the way to reinforce the things I am working on. Having her at the tips of my fingers helped prevent what was quickly becoming an uncontrolled panic attack a few months ago. I reached out letting her know what headspace I was in and within moments, she was on a chat with me, helping to ground me and refocus my energy and not feel lost in the overwhelming emotions I was feeling at the moment. That sold me on not only the convenience of online therapy in general, but in Denise's understanding of what I needed from her. She is an asset in my life and I am thankful that I was paired with her. I hope she will be a part of my continued healing and growth for years to come.

Denise is very personable and knowledgeable. She takes the time to truly understand what is happening in my life. Her counseling is spot on for her ability to help me cope in different ways that are suited to me. I love that she offers Bible verses to help me in my daily life and specifically for my struggles. She prays with me at the end of each session. She is a very soulful, good Christiam counselor whom I would recommend to anyone. As a Christian, myself, I so appreciate having a like-minded counselor. It helps me know I have someone of the same faith as my own to talk to that responds genuinely and compassionately. I am so happy I reached out for help thru Faithful Counseling. I have had previous counselors, one of which was also Faith-based thru a church. Denise is the first counselor I have ever found that I immediately felt a strong connection to that is also able to actually help me find my direction and my way in my life. I love that I am not a number or even just a name...I am a worthy person she is counseling. I am truly seeing some change in my manner of positive thinking and a more positive outlook for my life. Nothing is ever easy that is worth obtaining, which includes a healthy mental state. No matter what my mental state is at any given time, I know I am worthy of everything God has planned for me. Thank you Faithful Counseling for existing for all of us that need access to excellent counseling. Thank you to Denise for being a wonderful, caring counselor who has chosen to also reach out to help people thru Faithful Counseling!

Denise is a most compassionate and understanding counsellor. She probes questions to understand the whole situation, it's history and puts no judgement on the past or present. She is very available and responds to me within a few hours. I would recommend her to anyone struggling with their own decisions, their past, future anxieties and mental illness. She is like a good friend!
