Denise Mitchell

About Me

Hello and Welcome…..
Everyone has choices to make in life. Some are harder to make than others. My goal for you is to work together to provide a non-judgmental therapy experience. My name is Denise Mitchell and I have been counseling individuals from age nine to adults for over ten years.

My educational background started at the University of Pittsburgh where I received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education and Counseling. My journey to Maryland encouraged me to take my education a step further. Once I settled in Maryland, I attended Loyola University where I completed the requirements to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I have been providing therapy in this capacity for four years.

I have a wide array of experience working with adults 18+.including couples. My specialty is diverse and include working with individuals and couples who are experiencing marital issues, communication difficulties, boundaries and relationship concerns. I am a Christian and believe that God is the center for all decisions in my life. I am very comfortable including him in my therapy sessions and sharing my walk and testimony with others. I am not versed in Bible verses but I can share God’s purpose and direction and the blessings I was fortunate to receive.

My approach to therapy is to use a variety of modalities such as Person-centered therapy, to assist with guiding you through steps to resolve problems. Reality therapy to discover choices and options and what is going on in your life at this moment. Cognitive behavior therapy to assist with recognizing how your thinking affects your behavior. Christian therapy which will focus on creating a purpose by establishing boundaries and building relationships skills as God’s servants. With these therapeutic styles as the focal point, it is still my practice to select one or a combination of approaches that will best fit the person and their needs. Not one approach fits all. I will tailor therapy to your specific needs.

My style of therapy is to create a warm therapeutic environment where you feel safe, relaxed and open to begin discussing concerns. The decision to seek therapy can be scary and feel overwhelming. Making this decision together can lessen your apprehension and provide room for change to occur. I provide genuineness, caring and empathy during my sessions. I encourage us to work together to create a treatment plan that is right for you.
I am looking forward to us working together and enlighten you with a different way of thinking. Don’t worry I will meet you where you are, and we can make the transition together.

Denise has been a great resource and support during my time using Faithful Counseling. She has been encouraging and supportive as she listens to what I need to share and asks me the questions that lead me to application and growth in my own reflection. She shares things relevant to our conversation and has a great way of incorporating her great sense of humor into sessions that helps build relationship. I am grateful for the way she keeps things real and checks-in with me during the week just to see how I am progressing with my thoughts or actions based on the previous conversation. I am grateful to have been connected with Denise.
