About me

Connection with others and healthy, strong relationships are what I am passionate about. There are many times in life when journeys are hard, situations exhausting, and trying or overwhelming, and my desire is to come alongside and help process and encourage my clients. Counseling for clients can be hard work but can be so rewarding and healing in the process and on the other side of the valley they might be up against. People dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma of various kinds, relationship struggles and life change are many of who make up my clients. I work with a wide range of ages and journeys.

I received a masters in science from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2013. I am a licensed professional counselor as well as certified by the national board as a nationally certified counselor. I use a solution focused approach as well as CBT and trauma-focused therapy. This means I am looking for ways to help my client process, find tools to help them in the midst of their struggle and then get them to implement the tools so they can move forward to a healthier way of living. We can often get stuck in the way we have always done something and sometimes having a person on the outside can give us a new perspective and lens with which to see things and make changes necessary to move to health and peace.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Denise Thornton. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Denise is the best. I have had multiple other therapists here on BetterHelp, and they all didn’t care. Denise cares about our relationship. She caters to me, she never rushes me. She is always on time, and she gives excellent advice. She doesn’t just let me vent, she proactively gives me assignments to ensure that I am making the most progress in our therapy. She truly is the greatest. I always feel a million times better after we talk.

After having just one session with Denise I really like her. She is giving me weekly tools to improve myself and she gives me feedback.

Denise understands what I am working through with respect and compassion. She doesn't ignore present stresses to focus on past trauma or visa versa
