Faith is an essential aspect of most people's lives. Faith does not equate to religion of any type. In my experience living and working in the United States, Haiti, China, Hong Kong, Brazil, Ecuador, just to name a few, I have learned that most religions share the common element of faith. Personally, I have been disappointment many times by religion. My Faith has grown tremendously without the rules of religion as I call them. After years of nearly losing both daughters, then at age 31, my youngest transitioned from this life to beyond from brain cancer that started under her skin 4 years earlier. Then my Mom transitioned to heaven in my arms exactly 6 months to the day of my daughter. I have discovered through the pain, agony, and moments of spiritual amazement, that there is so much more to this life and the life beyond than any religion teaches.
I do not push faith in therapy. I use it, if the client so agrees, to open the client to a better healing or overcoming of the issue they came to therapy with. If prayer is requested, then I will pray with the client. Prayer is not limited to one style or type. I do not judge others regardless of faith and certainly not by their religion. That is not my role nor within my beliefs.
So, Faith Counseling to me is meeting the client where the client is and help them grow in all aspects of their life.
