Elizabeth Black

About Me

Even though I completed my formal education with my Masters in Counseling from Spring Arbor University in 2015, I have been passionate about people, stories, and truth, for as long as I can remember. I feel blessed to be in a profession where I can engage with all three! I believe that therapy is an opportunity to search for truth about yourself, others, and the world. I firmly believe that God is the one that does the healing work, and that I am a vessel to speak truth and encouragement to each of my clients. At the heart of Truth is the gospel, and I know that gospel will provide freedom as we look to God's perfect love and plan for our lives.

Therapy can be an intimidating endeavor, but my aim is to create an authentic connection with each of my clients, in order to make the vulnerability it requires easier. I have experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, grief and loss, difficult relationships, communication skills, and boundary setting. I am especially passionate about working with young adults as they cope with the many stressors they encounter, though I have experience working with a variety of clients. I have exclusively gone to Christian schools (both my undergraduate and graduate degrees) and have worked at a Christian agency when I practiced "in-person" counseling.

My personal style is a laid back and highly relational approach. I want to create a genuine relationship in which personal discovery and growth is possible! I also tend to be someone who challenges thought processes, gives feedback, and points to helpful resources. I will always attempt to discuss how God is weaving each person's story, and point to Scripture and Jesus. I am comfortable praying with my clients and always pray for them.

Pursuing therapy is wise and brave. I would consider it an absolute honor to listen to your story, and support you through your current struggles. There is no issue too insignificant to work on or to talk about. God values community; no person is meant to walk through life alone.

Elizabeth was very professional but caring and effective. She was very responsive and was super helpful in navigating a tricky situation I was in. Would absolutely recommend her.
