I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I am also a Certified Addictions Professional and a National Certified Counselor. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, and children in both individual and group settings; privately and in the hospital/treatment center settings. I have experience working with couples and families. Some of my specialties include depression, anxiety, stress management, recovery, trauma, abuse, as well as grief and loss.
The key aspect to treatment is establishing a therapeutic relationship, first. Building trust and understanding the person I am helping is important and leads to better results. In therapy, I come from a compassionate, empathetic, supportive approach. I work collaboratively with individuals on the goals they want to work on. Together we will explore what may be challenging and devise a plan on how to overcome those challenges and celebrate success.
I have worked with many diverse populations and individuals from different beliefs and backgrounds. Personally, as a Christian, I have been led to help others and have seen blessings come from the work that I have be a part of. My belief is in God and I am happy to share that with anyone who is comfortable and would be encouraged by knowing their counselor also believes in God. I became a Christian at a very early age and asked God into my life as a young teen. God’s voice has led me through many difficult times and often provided guidance in the most difficult of circumstances.
A little bit about my walk. I was raised initially Roman Catholic. I then explored the Lutheran faith, then Pentecostal, some Baptist and currently non-denominational. Personally, I practice coming from a place of loving people right where they are and helping them to get to where they want to be.
When thinking about counseling using metaphors can be helpful. So metaphorically speaking, we have two legs on our body. Therefore, if you can envision each of us has a worldly leg and a spiritual leg and to get by in life you have both experiences—worldly and spiritual. Honoring both and respecting both is something that has help many people get through some of the toughest times that have tested their faith.
While incorporating the word of God I still use different counseling styles and therapeutic techniques blending cognitive behavioral, person center and solution focused therapy together, making each session tailored to your specific needs. Hearing someone’s story, exploring where they can understand God is with them on their journey, finding what they think and making sense of everything together seems to be most helpful.
I value creating the space for sharing the word, safety and vulnerability, while providing support and understanding allows each person to work through whatever difficulty they may be facing. I am grateful to be part of your journey and look forward to helping you heal.
