Hello and welcome to Faithful Counseling! My faith and spirituality have been central to my entire life, since I was a very small child, so that I understand how important for my Christian clients to have an experience of respect and confidence and safety regarding your beliefs and values.
My approach as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Certified Life Coach is always to focus on you as a unique person with your own thoughts, feelings, struggles, goals, and dreams. My desire is to create a sacred space for you, to listen with my whole being, to reflect, and to ask you powerful questions which will help you explore, analyze, brainstorm, and discover answers and strengths which lay within you and which you may not yet be aware of. And unlocking motivation is really key to moving forward, isn’t it? I believe that this is often found in describing what we love and value and then creating a vision around what we love and value which is compelling and life-giving. For Christians, much of our motivation is found in growing and renewing our relationship with God.
A little about me: I have a varied background which has led me to be someone who believes in thinking “outside of the box”! This is because God has taken me on unexpected adventures – this has been sometimes painful, sometimes scary, but also joyful and exciting. I initially earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts (in an innovative Great Books program where we studied a lot of philosophy and theology). I then went on to earn a B.Mus. in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music. However, it wasn’t until many years later, while living with my husband in Hawaii, that I felt called to the professional counseling field, completing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Argosy University Atlanta in 2014. My clinical internship gave me the privilege of working with children and adolescents presenting with ADHD and autism. My post-graduate work has included working with adults of all ages around life transitions, relationship issues, grief, depression, stress, and physical health; and for two years I worked intensively with adults struggling with opiate addiction.
"If anyone thirst, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" (John 7:37-38).
