I am an LCPC board-certified mental health therapist in Maryland and I am also licensed with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NCC). I am equally certified in Telehealth for mental health professionals, and I’ve been in practice for the past 6 years. I graduated from Walden University in 2014 with an MSc in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I’m presently a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) at the Ph.D. ABD (All but Dissertation) level. Hopefully, I’d complete the program by the end of 2020.
As a mental health counseling professional, I worked in methadone clinics where I saw clients with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Using the therapeutic community (TC) model, I also worked in the jail system at a male maximum-security correctional facility with clients incarcerated for drug-related crimes who were getting ready to be released. When I worked in an out-patient mental health clinic, I saw clients from all cultural backgrounds including those within the LGBTQ+ community, and my clients had all kinds of mental health disorders and illnesses including anxiety, depression, relationship and blended family issues, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, as well as physical and emotional trauma. Presently, in my private practice, my clients include those in PRP programs.
Although I’ve worked with clients as young as 4 years and as old as 70 years, I prefer clients between the ages of 18 years and above. I do individual and group counseling and Christian counseling as well. As the General Overseer of a Christian Ministry, Grace Intercessors and Missions International, I have been in Christian counseling for over 15 years, during which time I have had to counsel individuals, couples, and families based on the Word of God. I have realized that the Bible uses a lot of approaches that are used in conventional therapeutic sessions. For example, Romans 12:2 states, "Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think..." (The Living Bible), This is CBT which helps clients to see how their thoughts are having a negative impact on their behavior. Additionally, my Christian clients have testified about the effectiveness of prayer which they say is an added value to the attainment of their therapeutic goals. As a professional translator (French-English; English-French), I can handle French-speaking clients. My counseling style is relaxed, fun-filled, and very interactive. I treat all my clients with respect, as I feel honored that they have chosen me to be their therapist. I am always open to hearing everything they have to say with a non-judgmental mind and nothing I hear surprises me.
Although my foundational theoretical orientation is person-centered, my approach is eclectic in nature as I integratively use CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy among other theories. I consider every client as unique with specific needs and even at cultural levels, I never believe in the “one treatment fits all” approach because clients have their own cultural uniqueness, even identical twins. I also believe that clients are imbued with the attributes they need to be the best expression of themselves.
Consequently, my role is always to bring out those strengths in them and encourage them to activate the hidden ones. Additionally, no matter what their mental health issues are, my ideal clients are those who are intentionally ready and determined to change for the better. Considering that I am an eternal learner and that I am always open to learning from the experiences of every client I meet, I see our exchanges during therapy sessions as mutually beneficial.
Since what I do is more of a calling, I assure you that I will always be here for you and together, we will overcome whatever it is that is making you feel less than who you are as I fully dedicate myself to helping you attain your treatment plan goals.
