Jim has been a practicing Christian since he was born again 35 years ago. He relies on the Bible in counseling believers. The Bible itself addresses issues that apply to life today. We go to the scripture for counsel in dealing with sin. We rely on the Holy Spirit as the primary counselor providing wisdom, love, and power over sin and over the adversary. Although doctrine is very important, the greatest power rests with the Gospel. Jim does not allow doctrinal differences with his clients to contaminate the therapeutic process. Clients can become oppressed with such distortions of the gospel as Legalism. Many clients have been hurt by a legalistic family member. We all need to be freed from the oppression of legalism through the gospel, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Principles of cognitive behavior therapy, rational-emotive therapy and hypnotherapy are quite compatible with the Gospel and with Christian doctrine. Jim does not "push" hypnotherapy but rather takes the time to explain how and why it works, & how it serves to channel the Holy Spirit to empower the individual to lead a Christ entered life. Misconceptions about hypnosis are addressed and cleared up. Hypnotherapy is not done except with the greatest of informed consent. If there are any misgivings, we don't do hypnosis.
