EZRA 10:4- Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it."
Hello, my name is Jan Culpepper and for over 15 years I have been in the counseling field working toward empowering others and providing resources to assist them on their journey of healing. For 5 of those years I served as a children and family director at a local church and provided Christian counseling to those in the community. I was saved at the age of 11 where I understood salvation and I believed as Christ as my savior, but it was not until I was 29 until I truly gave my life over to God. I was always holding on to something, using logic and common sense to make sense of my world. Then the Holy Spirit led me to let go. Let go of the “justified” anger and hurt, let go of the “too strong to be hurt”, let go and forgive those who assaulted me. Let go and give it to God. Be in prayer and forgive. Talk about “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). But after days in prayer a burden I wore like an old comfortable sweater was lifted. Just releasing me of that burden changed me as a person, a parent, and a child of God. Four years later I learned in college that the Holy Spirit walked me through what is called Forgiveness Therapy.
I have been a licensed professional counselor for over 4 years in the Outer Banks of NC where work with a local agency to provide outpatient mental health therapy and I have a small private practice where I provided Christian Counseling for 3 years. I believe that Christian Counseling goes beyond conventional counseling because in the journey of strengthening your mental and emotional wellbeing as a Christian the journey is fruitless with out God. And when He is invited, when His word and truth is integrated in the therapeutic process, then it is not just you learning a new coping skill but you strengthening and growing in your relationship with God.
I attended Liberty University and received my MA in Professional Counseling with a certification in Trauma Studies to ensure that I was trained to provide sound Christian Counseling. I do not believe, nor find any scripture that supports that mental illness is caused by a lack of faith in God. Can a lack of faith in God cause some to have anxiety symptoms and feel depressive symptoms? Yes, but it is important in the therapeutic process that we recognize the difference between lack of faith and mental illness. Then we can work together, in accordance with God, to working toward healing.
Over the years I have been trained in multiple techniques that strengthen my skills in treating clients with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, high functioning autism, parenting skills, couples and family issues, ADHD, oppositional defiance, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, life transitions, chronic pain, borderline personality disorder, and phobias. I specialize in trauma and have the following certifications; Clinical Certified Trauma Professional (CCTP) for adults through the International Association of Trauma Professionals, certified in SITCAP- Level 1 (Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents and Parents) as a Certified Trauma Practitioner- Clinical (CTP), and certified in Trauma Studies. I am also a certified Triple P Practitioner (positive parenting counseling). My other trainings in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Together Facing the Challenge, crisis counseling, art therapy, mindfulness, Seven Challenges (substance abuse) and TF-CBT (trauma focused therapy) will allow me to work with you on providing the best therapy to meet your goals. I look forward to working with you.

Jan came along at a time when I sorely needed help. She was attentive, conscientious, intuitive, and very prayerful. The exercises she prescribed gave me much greater insight. I am so grateful to have been under her care.
Such a great person to talk to! So blessed to have her as my counselor!
Jan has been a real blessing to me over these past months. She loves the Lord and seeks Him for wisdom and teachings. She is very caring and very easy to talk to. She is very down to earth yet very knowledgeable. I’m so glad to have been matched with Jan for my counseling.
I love Jan and don't know where I would be without her. So thankful for Jan and Faithful Counseling.
Jan has been an excellent guide to allow me to better align my behaviors with my stated beliefs, especially in trusting God instead of being overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. Her counsel has provided strategies for helping me to better walk out my faith in a more worthy manner.
Understands me. God works through her to help me! Thankful for her!
Jan helped me through some very difficult times; with her I knew I always had a listening ear! I knew I could rely on her to give an objective perspective on things going on in my life but still be sympathetic and caring. My outlook on life has become brighter since I started talking with her. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything!
My husband and I really enjoyed our counseling sessions with Jan. She was very helpful each session and reminded us of our progress and the hope she saw in our relationship. We appreciated and valued her Godly wisdom and view throughout our counseling sessions and chats. We ended every session in prayer and enjoyed the scriptures she sent between sessions. We definitely believe that God is working through her to help strengthen our marriage and our walk with him.
The best. Godly counsel with compassion and grace.
