About me

I have been a mental health counselor for the past seven years. The population I work with is unique as most of my clients live in group homes and low income housing who have chronic mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from growing up in an abusive family and/or who have been homeless at one point in their lives. I have also worked with many couples as they forge a path through obstacles in their marriage and have seen them meet their goals.
My counseling style is considered eclectic but I often approach each session in a person centered manner and often lean on cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe the client is their own expert and they know their limits. I want to know what has worked for a person as well as what has not worked and if they have hit a wall.
Some clients I have met three to four times and they have met their goals and some I have had for over two years. I offer a great deal of understanding and empathy as I have had to deal with storms in my own life and know the value of having someone I know will simply listen.
