I am glad that you sought Christian therapy and are on my page. Let me begin by sharing about my beliefs, as this is often important in deciding the right Christian therapist. I was raised in several denominational churches growing up, but throughout the two things that remained consistent: scripture and relationship. I take a non-denominational approach with scripture being the Word of God and authority. As Hillsong sings, "I believe in God our Father, I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe in the Holy Spirit, Our God is three in one." These are important tenets to establish at the beginning as God is the foundation, in relationship, with gives us absolute truth through scripture. Growth comes not only from outward changes in behaviors but the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2). Not only having been raised with a deeply spiritual grandmother who taught me to walk with God in a daily relationship, but I also studied Christian Counseling through Liberty University in undergraduate and graduate programs. I was taught evaluate secular psychological modalities in the light of scripture with the ultimate goal of developing our spiritual maturity. Therefore, I use cognitive-behavioral, positive psychology, solution-focused, trauma-informed, and narrative therapy methods that align with scripture and address personal goals.
One of the primary reasons I chose Christian therapy is because I have seen the effectiveness of recovering and healing from depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship or parenting problems or simply dealing with daily stressors in my own life. It is a daily walk, but sometimes we need help to learn how to put scripture and the wisdom we already possess into a helpful practice that serves our needs. I personally have utilized Philippians 4:8 many times of distress to boost my mood or reduce anxiety. 2 Timothy 1:7 to stop fear and be at peace in moments of stress or crisis, Matthew 21:22, Proverbs 3:5 to build hope and faith. So, you could say that I practice what I preach. It is through relationship that we grow, so I take a non-judgmental, warm and caring approach in a therapeutic relationship and add specific interventions, maybe homework, to build skills, bring new perspectives, offer practical tools. Whatever your goals are, together we can develop a plan to meet your needs and gain renewal.
