Let's face it: Life is hard. But how we respond to it is what makes the difference. It's how many times we get back up and keep putting one foot in front of the other. We can succumb to circumstances in which bad things have happened to us at the hands of others or because of our own poor choices we have made, or we can choose to rise above them all by facing our fears and boldly moving forward, letting them shape who we are and lead us to new understanding of who we are in Christ. I would love to come along side you and journey with you to discover how to be an over-comer. You are not alone.
"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:3-5, ESV
My BA is in Social Sciences from Washington State University (1995), a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the Alaska Pacific University (1997) and additional course work in addictions from Aspen University (2016). I have been a Christian all my life and have experience with many denominations and non-denominational churches.
I am a dual-licensed therapist in both the states of WA and TN. I have been in the mental health field as a counselor for 22 years. I have worked on the side of prevention, from a strength-based model with infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, to providing supportive, walk-around, brief and solution-focused therapies to military families and their children in elementary and middle schools. My work with adults in private practice has spanned all ages, in which I utilize cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused and brief therapies. My graduate program actually covered all the disciplines of psychology from an eclectic model, but these therapies, I believe, are most useful in helping you to sort out the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and then also to help you establish goals to focus them on where you want to go without dwelling on the past.
The foundation under all therapy is the inerrant Word of God, woven into therapy in a gentle way, to help you learn healthier ways of thinking based on scripture and making better behavioral choices. Knowing who we are in Christ and the power of His Spirit (the one true counselor) within will help you in your journey. Sometimes based on our past and relationships with our parents (or lack thereof) we get an incorrect view of who God is. I can help you to understand that better.
I also have a great love of music and songwriting and was part of an industry start-up in Nashville, TN that worked with musicians to provide mental health counseling support both in-person and online, when artists were on the road via Telemental health counseling. I understand the creative side of artists and the demands of the Christian music industry.
My areas of expertise cover: depression, anxiety, stress, grief & loss, abuse, relationships and communication.
If you are a looking for a gentle and compassionate counselor who is able to be firm enough to motivate you to change, helping you to get unstuck and to move forward to where you want to go, I am here to help you!

It was very hard for me to admit I was “stuck” in a dark place and had to get help. In reaching out to Jennifer I felt safe almost immediately. She “listened”, didn’t judge and was so helpful by not giving me so much feedback at first because I was not in a place to hear a lot. I am encouraged by her comments - she acknowledges the positive strides I am making. She asks questions that help me sort out my thoughts and struggles. I am pleased with Jennifer and would highly recommend her.
