Hello! My name is Jerrie Smith and I am excited that you have chosen to learn new tools that may assist you with making positive changes in your life with BetterHelp! I believe therapy is an important tool to assist us during our lifetime, whether it be for day to day issues, for situational issues or for disorders such as depression and addiction. I will work with you to build a level of trust that will allow the therapeutic process to flow freely. I will assist you with making positive changes in your life or with developing and learning new tools to assist you in coping with whatever life has brought your way. I believe that a person should be treated with all resources available, with God being the most important resource of all!
My clinical experience began over 20 years ago in Kansas, before I made the move back to Texas where I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with client's who range in age from 4 to 92 years. Some of the areas I have worked with include foster care, depression, anxiety and addiction. Trauma is another area wherein I have worked and continue to study. I believe working together as a team on any of these obstacles can be very effective and rewarding.
My therapeutic approach is different depending on my client's needs. However, I work a great deal with the Cognitive Behavioral approach as I feel this theory can be most effective when working toward positive life changes. Together, we will discuss your concerns, working to draw on your positive past experiences with the addition of the words from our Lord and savior and some new suggestions discovered by the clinical research specialists in the fields of Psychology and Counseling. With the majority of my experience being dealing with trauma, addictions and mood disorders, I draw on several resources that may be helpful during the counseling process such as books, worksheets, art and written narratives. Your support system and general environment/lifestyle is also spoken about as I believe you should be treated as a whole person, not just as someone dealing with a single issue.
It is felt that by truly listening to your concerns, a plan can be developed that may assist you in increasing your quality of life! I am truly excited to work with and get to know you!
