Please note that while I own an adult day center for people with Alzheimer's my counseling experience is vast and you can see the various things I am trained in if you read my full bio. If you are matched with me it means I have looked at your presenting issues and feel comfortable taking on your concerns. If I did not feel comfortable taking you on as a client I would not do this.
Johanna Jameson is an Illinois-licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Johanna is the founder of Memory Farm® a farm-based adult day center for those living with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Johanna worked for six years at Rush University Medical Center. During that time she was active in The Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center Without Warning group, a support group for people living with young-onset Alzheimer's disease. She was a research assistant in Rush University's Behavioral Sciences department, where she was was a co-author on numerous publications relating to PTSD and post-traumatic growth.
Johanna currently serves as a Care Consultant at the Alzheimer's Association where she provides care planning and counseling to caregivers and people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. She also has a private practice she runs out of the Memory Farm where she offers in-person counseling services and care planning. She holds a BA in Marketing from Columbia College and an MA in Counseling and Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
Johanna also has experience treating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and issues related to coping with life and career changes and also family and relationship distress.
Johanna has over five years of experience working with families and couples who are struggling with caring for sick loved ones. Johanna has couched many couples who have experienced material problems due to having to care for an ailing parent in or outside the home.
Johanna also has worked with couples dealing with marital and relationship distress. The common issues Johanna has worked with couples are as follows:
Rebuilding trust and learning to forgive after an affair
Restoring love and closeness
Resolving problems without fighting
Improving listening, understanding, and acceptance
Managing the stresses of infertility or adoption
Preparing for marriage or re-marriage
Issues related to career and lifestyle change
Issues related to differing parenting styles
Mental health or substance abuse impacting a marriage
In her free time, Johanna enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and staying active with running and yoga classes. She is a level-one yoga instructor with a focus in senior yoga.
Johanna believes that faith plays a large part in helping people overcome life’s challenges. Johanna's favorite story in the Bible comes from the book of Ruth. The central point of this book is that even in times of crisis and despair, life may be lived according to the precepts of God and that God abundantly blesses those who do so live. The fundamental human values of love, faith, trust an goodness are greater than the hatred and violence of men, and continue from generation to generation as light to guide those who look for true meaning.

So far I have had two sessions with Johanna and absolutely love her and her process. She is real, intelligent, and understanding. She makes me feel comfortable to share the good and the bad and has great strategies. She’s given me hope while I have had a lot of darkness and stress in my past and present. I gave her multiple issues to attack and we dove right in making steps in all areas. Not only do I love the sessions, but also who she is as a person. Running an adult center for seniors with dementia / other disabilities and helping their families shows just a glimpse of her huge heart. She’s doing the work of an angel, and I would recommend her to anyone struggling or needing an experts advice.
I like communicating with Johanna because she is making every effort to help me break down my concerns into manageable parts to keep from feeling overwhelmed. She waits until I am finished talking and there is a pause before she replies. She encourages me to look at situations from a different point of view, which I feel is helpful.
