Whatever difficulty brought you here I believe I can help. My undergraduate work was done at a bible college and I have major in Bible theology. I went on to get my masters in social work from WMU. My approach to counseling focuses on what you want your life to look like. Together we will explore the differences between the life you want and the life you have. I will encourage, support and listen to you as tell me about your struggles. I will trust and respect what you have to say without judgment. Together we will evaluate how your relationships can improve and you can better meet your needs. Whether you are dealing with stress, anxiety, anger, or depression we will come up with behaviors that will be more fulfilling for you and the people around you. If you are seeking Christian counseling then we will also consider what God wants for your life to help us evaluate what behaviors could be changed.
My approach is a form or Cognitive Behavioral therapy called "Reality Therapy". It focuses on what you as the client want, what God wants, and evaluating how to get it. Reality therapy places a high importance on relationships and the role they play in our overall happiness. God also places a high importance on relationships so the approach mixes well with biblical teachings. Relationships can be another person, group of people, or a role/organization like a job. Past experiences are important in shaping who you are but what you do in the present and future is the focus for change. Most importantly, If you work with me I can teach you the knowledge and skills to improve your overall happiness for the rest of your life.
I look forward to working with you! -John

John is a man of God and faith. He is very realistic and cares about me. I didn’t think this would be effective for me, but we are almost going on 5 months now. I thought I would be judged, NOT the case. He appreciates honesty and that is the key for me. Great counselor, great man too. If you’re lucky, he can help you too.
I have had a few online written and one video session with John. He is thoughtful, intuitive and is able to delineate what problems are at hand. He is practical with Christian perspective solutions to my problems. I am so grateful that I found Faithful Counseling online and that John Arens was available to help me. Super helpful and has made a massive difference in where my relationship is heading. Thank you John.
