About Me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has been in practice for 20 years. I graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theologial Seminary. I have worked in a private mental health hospital where I had experience working with depression, anxiety and psychotic patients. For the last 15 years I have worked in a State Correctional Facility for women. I had experience there working with abuse and self-mutilation cases. While working at the prison I became certified in Hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linquistic Programming). Together they are very effective in treating trauma, anxiety and depression.

I practice a short-term solution based approach to counseling. Spending lots of time on trying to understand why things happened in the past is not very profitable, since we cannot change it. What we can change is the present. Understanding how the past affects our behavior today is useful if we focus on changing our thoughts and beliefs about the past which will help us make good choices in the future. The theoretical approaches I follow are based on CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Combined with hypnosis and NLP this makes an effective approach to healing from your past and setting goals for the future.

God created us to have Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual needs. AlI of these areas need to be addressed in the healing process. Our spiritual needs are an intrical part of our over-all mental health. Having an understanding of our relationship with God helps put into perspective all the other areas of our life. I will use scripture, use biblical parables and recommend Christian books to help in the healing process.

I would be honored to assist you in making the changes you need to make to stop allowing the past to rule the present.
