Welcome to Betterhelp. My name is John P. Koffman. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wyoming and a member of the Wyoming Counseling Association. I earned my Masters In Counseling Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University and my Education Specialist Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a marriage and family emphasis, from the University of Missouri. I have been practicing for 30 years as a generalist in a Community Mental Health setting, providing Community-Based, Agency-Based and School-Based services in Casper Wyoming. I have conducted managerial and supervisory services for a Therapeutic Family Care Program and was a laison with the Department of Family Services and other state agencies. In all of those years I have gained experience working with a vast array of mental, interpersonal, emotional and behavioral health issues, primarily with adolescents and adults. Prior to obtaining my counseling degrees, I taught high school and was a coach in a variety of sports. Additionally, I worked in an institution for the developmentally disabled, developing treatment plans and providing staff training.
It is my belief, and my experience supports, that a strong client/therapist relationship is absolutely essential. My approach to treatment varies, depending on the issues that a client comes in with. This may include Client-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy and Solution-.Focused Therapy. I am a strong advocate for the utilization of exercise and eating well and can provide psychoeducation in this area. Although I possess no formal training, I have been successful at including Faith-Based Therapy in the treatment process if that is what meets the client's needs.
I have a passion for working with people to help them obtain success in living their lives to the fullest. I fully understand that being attached to the right therapist is essential and that it may take time to find that right fit. I have been told that I am easy to connect with and it is my hope that I can be of service to you.

John has been such a great listener and very encouraging when we/I set goals for myself. He was able to set some of my anxiety at ease during our first session and has continued to help me improve over all. Very thankful for this match.
