My name is Kailee Smith and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I have been practicing for the past 4 years. I have worked with individuals, couples, children, and families. I have also facilitated domestic violence, anger management, and parenting groups. I have had the privilege of working with individuals that are dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, relational issues, parenting issues, co-parenting, career challenges, past abuse, and the challenges that come along with adjusting to something new.
I earned my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Development, and I have a Masters degree with a double emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling.
My counseling style is warm, empathic, respectful, client-centered, safe, and free of judgment. I believe that creating a safe environment for my clients and developing a caring therapeutic relationship is critical to a successful therapeutic experience. It is my belief that a therapeutic relationship should be a collaborative one where you and I work together to discover strategies and solutions that best help you and that will meet your specific needs.
I practice from a variety of therapeutic orientations. First and foremost, I practice from a Client Centered (Rogerian) modality. This is the core of who I am as a therapist. This means that there is respect, encouragement, warmth, active/reflective listening, validation, normalization, meeting the client where they are at, and no judgment. I also utilize Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, and Mindfulness. I am a firm believer that every individual is unique and special, and practicing from only one therapeutic orientation will not work for everyone. As a therapist, I strive to tailor each session to each client’s individual and specific needs.
Although I don’t know what you are currently facing, I do know that God does not give us more than we can handle. We don’t always understand why we are going through the challenges that we are, but He is preparing us for something great, and He will use the challenges we go through to help someone else. For me personally, reminding myself of this helps me get through difficult and challenging times. It doesn’t mean that I don’t struggle, but knowing and understanding that God is in control and has a plan for me and my life, whether I understand what that is or not, helps me to let go of the situation and trust that everything will be just fine.
Outside of practicing therapy, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our families, traveling, camping, participating in church activities, relaxing at the beach, and taking our active dog on lots of walks.
It takes a lot of strength and courage to reach out and seek assistance during challenging times. I appreciate and respect the courage it takes to make the decision to take this first step. It is my prayer you also recognize the strength you have within. I look forward to working with you!
