About Me

Through Faith in God, I Survived

Let me share with you my journey from Homelessness to Doctor

“One morning, after another violent incident inflicted by my ex-husband, God spoke to me saying “time to go.”

On this day I fled from the comfort of my hometown and relocated to another state for the safety and wellbeing of myself as well as my infant child. My decision to move was predicated on “Faith in God” and “Faith in God” alone. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior as a young child. My life has been predicated on building a strong relationship with God and allowing him to order my steps. Because of the faith that I have in God, commitment to follow his will, and belief that he will bring me through all obstacles and life challenges, I moved to a state where I did not have a home, job, or money.

This was a very scary time for me because I moved to state where I did not have a natural support system and was living in shelter for victims of domestic violence. My journey allowed me to experience homelessness through first-hand lenses.

I would be fabricating if I told you that, I experienced the same level of marginalization, stigmatization, discrimination, or degradation as my homeless counterparts who were not abused by their intimate partner.

In fact, my experience was quite the opposite. Doors immediately opened for me for housing, job, education, and child-care support.

As I ponder about my encounter with homelessness, I wonder what is the difference between the resources that were provided to me compared to others experiencing the same homeless condition. Certainly, I can argue that even though I was not formally diagnosed with a mental illness, the sudden terminal illness of my mother and victimization from my partner definitely led to my crying excessively, being sad most of the time, lack of concentration, and disinterest in activities that I once enjoyed. The emotional, verbal, and physical abuse that I endured also led to my experiencing symptoms related to PTSD.

Fortunately, I was linked to a counselor to assist me with processing my past life events, relationship issues, family dynamics, and help me build a tool-box to thrive in my new life.

This serves as my foundation for providing treatment through the lenses of Christianity. It is my hope to help others develop a tool-box to assist with navigating through life challenges by having a faith in a higher source of power.
