I have been a follower of Christ for my entire adult life. I did not grow up in a Christian home, and making this decision was a darkness-to-light experience for me. I was 19 years old. I am an older adult, so it's been many years of living out my faith.
I was interested in the helping professions even before I became a Christian, and I believe that that is my calling. I have never imagined myself doing anything other than this. I started out by being trained and serving as a volunteer in a church counseling clinic. I loved it so much, that I decided to go to grad school and do it professionally. I currently see clients at the church that I attend, and I volunteer at a grief and loss agency in the community.
Coming alongside those who are experiencing grief and loss is one of my passions. Other areas of expertise and interest are helping people have healthy relationships and good boundaries, trauma and PTSD, depression, parenting, and encouraging people in their relationship with God.
In my experience as a counselor, I have mostly worked in faith-based settings, including churches and faith-based agencies. My preference is to incorporate faith into the counseling practice as much as the client wants to. I like to use faith-based resources whenever possible, and yet I also use well-respected and well-researched resources. I believe that all truth is God's truth, so I use the best of both worlds. I always encourage clients to make sure their priority is in their relationship with the Lord, because that's the best way to move through struggles and challenges. The counseling process is a way to add onto that foundation, and that will include support, providing useful tools for tackling problems, encouragement, and accountability.
I think that what makes counseling work is for the therapist and client to have a good and trusting working relationship, first and foremost. In addition, it is most helpful if the client is ready to be open to input, feedback, change, and growth.

I really appreciate how Laurie patiently listens, is quick to point me to the truth after asking helpful questions, and leads me to better thinking patterns. You feel like you can be honest with her, and you can tell she cares. Thank you, Laurie.
The time that I spent with Laurie in our counseling sessions was extremely helpful to me during a very difficult time in my marriage and family business. Laurie quickly identified an area that was very weak in my/our life and relationships. It was also super helpful to hear from a counselor that I wasn’t “crazy” and that gave me courage to go forward and persevere in the tough decisions and boundaries that needed to be made. I also very much appreciated her empathy and wisdom around our whole situation. I would not have survived this time and situation in my life or learned so much with out my sessions with Laurie.
I appreciate that Laurie has shown me an entirely different way of looking at a wife's position from a biblical perspective. She challenges me to grow and take positive steps in all of my relationships-especially with my husband. I love that she prays with me at the end of each session and is such a kind, caring person. I definitely recommend her to anyone in need.
Laurie brings wisdom and insight into some challenging dynamics. She shows compassion and understanding which has been greatly appreciated!
I feel that Laurie really cares. I get good advice from her, she listens and is patient.
Very nice person who respects me and offers help when I reach out.
