My name is Lindsay McKinney, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor practicing in the state of Massachusetts. I have been working with adolescents, adults, and families for the past eighteen years in a community based mental health setting. My college experience has included Assumption College for both undergraduate and graduate level education, where I obtained a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology.
Over the years, I have worked with almost every diagnosis and presenting problem. It is my belief that therapy is truly teamwork between the therapist and the client. I enjoy working with a variety of people and issues, but have specialized over the years in trauma, depression, and anxiety. It is truly an honor to be in this profession, and I enjoy helping people. I am very eclectic in my approaches to treatment and try to tailor to suit each client's individual needs.
I was raised as a Catholic and my family practiced this faith devoutly. These values were instilled in me and provided a good foundation for the rest of my life. Within the past two years, I began attending the Christian church and connecting with the principles. It felt that God was leading me on this path here, and connected instantly with this belief system. Prayer is very important to me, and I truly believe that we need to ask God to help us in our struggles and pray to Him regularly. We need to seek Him out both in the good times and in the bad times.
I have been incorporating spirituality into counseling when clients prefer to do so over the course of my experience as a counselor. I am a Christian who strongly believes in God and hopes to use the Bible and faith to help support and encourage clients in meeting their goals. God's word can guide us and help us reflect upon our situations and challenges. Therefore, it makes sense to include God in the therapeutic relationship as well when the client is willing to do so.
Here are some of my favorite Bible verses about mental health::

Romans 8:38-39 "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, not things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord".
Jeremiah 29: 11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope".
Matthew 11: 28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light".
Luke 1: 37 "For my word from God will ever fail".

Lindsay listened to me patiently, sometimes i just ranted and she helped me put my thoughts into perspective. she understands cultural diversity and helped me understand how to best deal with my situation which was made much more strenuous by culture and religion. I loved how keenly she would listen and how patience she was with me.
