My name is Lorene Floyd and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Alabama. I received by Masters in Counseling and Human Development from Troy University, Montgomery and my BS degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. I have been working in the mental health field (primarily the Veteran Affairs Health Care System) for 30 years and am currently retired so that I can have more time with my grandkids. My bulk of my experiences include working with individuals with substance abuse problems and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This has equipped me to also be able to relate and treat issues such as anger, anxiety, marital, and stress along with a number of other mental health disorders.
I'm relatively easy going and open-minded but believe in being direct and honest. I like asking open-ended questions to help others solve their own problems while also providing them with helpful solutions if needed. I'm trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy as well as seeking Safety. I'm also familiar with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I'm comfortable in individual or group settings and enjoy providing emotional support to those who need it. I'm a very spiritual person of faith and enjoy singing, dancing (but for fun) and walking. I enjoy reading the Bible and talking about my love for Christ as well as listening to others talking about their lives and spiritual struggles.
