Hello and welcome! My name is Maria Grieco and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. If you are in a phase of your life where you have started thinking about change or are looking for ways for your life to be more functional and positive, you are already on the right track! Life is full of twists and turns which can result in benefiting from support and an outside perspective. Whether you have just started to think about engaging in therapy or being open to learning some new tools, be proud of making this first step!
I am a firm believer that in order to be truly fulfilled in our lives, human beings must have physical, mental, and spiritual needs met. If you have thought about accessing counseling but were concerned that a professional would minimize or not understand the importance of your faith in regards to the joys and challenges you face, then having a Christian counselor may be a good fit!
As a therapist it is my job to aid people in healing and managing some of life's most challenging moments. I believe faith is a large part of the healing process and am open to incorporating discussion surrounding the role of faith and spirituality in your life, throughout the therapeutic process.
I have been working in the mental health field for over 10 years. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore where I was privileged enough to serve and work with individuals with chronic illness, survivors of domestic violence, veterans, active duty military members (and their families) and adults with varied cognitive abilities. I have experience working with both adults and children from varied cultures and backgrounds, as well as, have worked and continue to work with individuals and families experiencing grief, anxiety, and depression.
Most often in my practice, I find myself drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Trauma Informed Approach. Although these are approaches that I commonly draw from, my treatment modalities vary based on what techniques may be the best fit for that individual. I don't believe there is a one size fits all therapeutic approach for everyone, and work to consistently check in and assess treatment styles for each client as I get to know them and the challenges they face. I work to empower my clients by teaching them the tools and skills necessary to manage their symptoms and challenges, and to aid individuals in identifying and building on their strengths.
Whether you are new to therapy or have engaged in therapy over the years, I hope to work together with you to process events or daily challenges that interfere with living your life in a meaningful way, and teach you skills and interventions that empower you to live a more fulfilling life. I look forward to hearing from you!
