Marie Dillinger

(MA, LMHC)

About Me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) for the state of Florida. My experience for the last 13 years has centered around mood disorders, adjustment issues, complicated grief, and trauma. I have worked with couples, families, and individuals. Currently I work with adults (18+) and recently have expanded my career to include a form of health coaching focusing on individuals with multiple chronic health conditions being negatively impacted by their own maladaptive behavioral issues.
The foundation of my therapy is Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) simply meaning that what we think influences how we feel which impacts how we behave. To change any behavior or feeling, we first need to address our thinking. I use a solution focused approach where together we focus on the issue(s) most important to my client. My goal in the counseling process is to assist you in improving the quality of your life. In my counseling environment, we walk together through those areas of life creating difficulty for you and you will learn how to manage, resolve, and reconcile those issues so you can enjoy the quality of life that is meaningful to you!
Identifying myself as a Christian counselor means that I understand there is a spiritual aspect to us all and I most easily relate to other Christians since I both understand and follow (to the best of my ability) the tenets of the Christian faith. As a professional counselor, I work with the values of the client, I do not proselytize. Recently I decided to work specifically with Christians because one of the unfortunate complaints I hear frequently from the faith community is that it is difficult to find a counselor who understands the Christian faith. Grace, mercy, compassion, and justice in the form of a love much greater than ourselves is available to each and every one of us. Sometimes our horizontal relationships serve to make us forget that or believe it true for others but not ourselves. Christian counseling uses the tenets of the Christian faith and evidence-based techniques together to help us heal and better manage our internal self-view as well as our horizontal relationships. Just one more thing: I believe that truth can and should be shared in a way that encourages and builds up, never tearing down another. If this resonates with you, please reach out and I will be happy to schedule us some time together! May your day be better than you hoped.
