I am Dr. Mark (Mark R. Marquez, LCSW, MSW, EdD) and have practiced as a clinical social worker for over 25 years. I am glad you are seeking help in addressing whatever is concerning you. This obvious strength bodes well for success in counseling regardless of whatever the issues may be.
I am a Christian and recognize myself as just a vessel for His work. I greatly appreciate the presence of the Lord in my life and definitely the constant presence of my Guardian Angel. However, I am not extremely religious. If having spirituality, especially Christian spirituality, as part of the therapeutic relationship I believe I may be able to help you in addressing your issues and concerns.
While I may be able to help you, it is important that you find a “good fit” between you and your counselor. I may be the counseling expert but you are the “you” expert. To insure that I meet the needs of my clients, I draw from a variety of treatment approaches but Person-Centered is the foundation to all my clinical practice and include 1) Unconditional Positive Regard (I accept you as you are and won’t judge you) and 2) client Self-Determination (I’ll help you clarify your decisions but you ultimately decide for yourself). I use Cognitive-Behavior Therapy and help my clients identify the “cognitive key” or trigger that is impacting their lives; Brief-solution focused therapy to focus in on specific issues for rapid resolution; and Crisis Intervention approach to help my clients modify their perception of the problematic event or situation to help decrease their distress and thusly increase their functioning. I find that stress management, good sleep hygiene, proper nutrition, appropriate exercise, and learning adaptive coping skills are part of most interventions that lead to positive outcomes.
You can decide how our therapeutic relationship can start: 1) we can just make contact so you can decide if I am the "right fit" and we will take it from there; 2) you can start with you telling me your “story” if you are ready but you may not be ready to share and that is understandable; or 3) you can share what is most important to you at this time by answering these questions:
1) What is the main reason that prompted you to seek help at this time?
2) List 3 things, in order of priority, that you would like to focus on first (they may or may not be what you wrote in Item 1. We will work on all your concerns over time, if you so choose.)
I apologize if this has been too much information. I respect your time and want you to get the help you need as soon as possible. To do so I believe you should be as informed about me as possible.
Once again, thank you for considering giving me the opportunity to work with on resolving your concerns.
Have a nice day,
Let me be guided by His hand in helping you help yourself find His path for you to health and happiness.

Dr. Marquez is great! I’ve tried many counselors and no one has been able to articulate my words the way he’s been able too. He’s reassured me and reaffirmed me in areas that I thought I was crazy in. He’s great!
Our first voice conversation went very well. I feel we covered a lot of ground, and he understood the issues I want to work on. He identified areas to start and followed up with suggestions to help me get started.
