About Me

My name is Melissa Averett. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor. I earned my Master Degree in Education Counseling at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2008. I earned a Degree in Ministry in 1994 from MTI Bethany Bible College in Louisiana . I worked 4 years in a residential setting with female adolescents and women recovering from addiction. I also worked 7 years at Spectrum Rehab Services providing outpatient counseling to adults and teens with a wide range of emotional struggles and mental illness. I use Person Centered Counseling to build rapport and help my clients identify their counseling needs and set counseling goals. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify and challenge maladaptive thoughts and restructure into heather thoughts and beliefs. I like to teach all my clients about healthy boundaries, choices and consequences, being responsible for their own behaviors, healthy coping skills and assertive communication skills to improve relationships. I will make a great effort to demonstrated warmth and empathy as we work on difficult issues toward your therapeutic goals. Scriptures and spiritual principles will be used to complement the counseling process, to the extent my clients request. I desire to help my Clients find a positive identity, direction, balance, peace, joy, freedom, restoration and healing.
