Dr. Mike Denn

(PsyD)

About Me

I received a PsyD in clinical psychology from Trinity College of Graduate Studies in 2004. I am licensed as a Clinical Psychologist is the state of California. My experience includes working in a range of experiences from working in a state mental hospital to spending 3 years as a school psychologist in a Catholic high school. I also interned in a counseling clinic and worked in a program that helps youths with drug problems. I have also lead 12 step type recovery and marriage recovery support groups in a church setting. I work with adolescents, individuals and couples.
My treatment approach uses Rational Living Therapy. It relies on developing a good relationship with my clients first. It is a form of cognitive therapy that is intended to be shorter term and produce long-term results. It uses the Socratic Method to uncover underlying beliefs. The goal is to teach clients how to help themselves. It is based on an educational model that teaches clients to see and change their cognitive distortions; and the thoughts that are causing them to have negative reactions to situations in their lives and learning how to change their thinking so that these events are no longer problematic.
I have found that people of faith have an understanding of life and an advantage in making changes because of their understanding of giving and receiving forgiveness for past mistakes. And an understanding that we are to be in a process of change and pursuing conformity to the image of God which produces peace and acceptance of this world as it is.

Mike has been understanding and helpful. I believe he has a good insight into the Bible but also has the clinical training needed as well.

I appreciate the guidance and candid counseling I have received from Dr Denn. I feel like he's my 2nd Dad. That trusted guidance that I had always wished I got from my Father.

Dr. Denn is a great listener and provides very practical input and direction. He also shared resources with me to use to allow me a hands on experience that's proving beneficial.

Dr. Denn listens very well, he doesn't rush me and he understands exactly how I feel. He gives me tools, materials, and strategies on how to tackle issues with my husband. And also how to better myself. He makes me feel strong and great about myself.

Dr. Denn has been great. He has completely listened to all my concerns and issues in a non-judgmental way. We have worked to get to "core" issues and addressing the cause and not just the symptoms. This has been highly effective. I recommend Dr. Denn highly.

Dr. Denn seems very able to work in the online genre and offer immediately helpful advice. I will likely continue with him for this reason. I was doubtful initially whether online counseling would work for me. I mostly text back and forth, and so happy he is agreeable to this method. So I am able to do this within my chaotic time frame. I would highly recommend both him and Faithful counseling.

He’s good and answers in a timely matter and seems to understand think I’m just waiting for him to help me on a deeper level and not just what’s on the surface
