I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1990 for Clients in the state of Texas. I have worked with Clients with a broad range of issues and concerns including trauma, PTDS, depression, anxiety, anger, relationship issues, parenting skills, self-care, OCD, and many other psychological addiction problems.
I also served as a prison chaplain for 6 years in the Texas State Prison system on units located in Huntsville, Texas. The ultimate goal of Christian counseling is to help you as a Christian identify behaviors that are inconsistent with God's teachings, so you can become more accepting of God's will for your life.
There are 2 essential things be mindful of when engaging in therapy. First, all negative behavior is the result of unhealed wounds we carry around with us, knowingly or unknowingly. These wounds are the ones that most need to be exposed to God’s healing and forgiveness. Second, all anger issues serve to cover a level of pain or hurt, and that is because anger is not a primary issue. With help from the Spirit, we work past the level of anger and focus on the issues requiring acknowledgement and God’s healing and forgiveness. We will encounter difficult conversations and we will maintain a calm and level environment during the counseling sessions.
The aim of Christian counseling is to help people regain a sense of hope for their life that is found in Jesus Christ. Christian counseling believes that at the core of what they do is to help others achieve a better understanding of themselves and God which is rooted in the Holy Spirit's conviction.
Following the example of Christ, Christians embody: Love: Christians carry the burdens of others. Ultimately, counselors should treat their clients with the respect they deserve, treating them as Christ would treat them. Faith: Effective Christian counseling requires the spiritual resources of faith, prayer, and worship.
My counseling style is best described as compassionate, accepting, fair, direct, straightforward, solutions-oriented, and motivated to help Client's achieve their therapeutic goals. I see my role as the individual entrusted by God to help my Clients face their fears and embrace the acceptance and unconditional love God has for each of us.
It can be frightening to take the first steps to engage with a therapist you have never met. It may be helpful to understand that I am experienced and well versed in the process of healing and facilitating change. Again, it is important to remember that all negative thoughts and unhealthy behaviors are likely the result of a wound that has not healed. I will listen to your thoughts and feelings, clarify issues associated with those thoughts and feelings, and guide you into the process for healing your wounds and facilitating change.
I look forward to working with you ! Please take the first step toward the process of healing and change! We can do this together!
