About Me

Hi, My name is Pat Nelson. I'm a licensed Social Worker and a Certified Christian Counselor. I graduated from Buffalo State Collage and from the New York State University at Buffalo. I am also licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina.
I am a strong believer of God and follower of Jesus. I have felt called to be a Social Worker since growing up in Southern California around American Indian Reservations. Although I didn't get to go to college until I was in my 40s, I never lost that call. I have had many prayers answered in my life but one of the most important was asking God to give me the strength to commute to Buffalo, NY (85 miles one way through blizzards in the Winter) to attend the only college that offered a Bachelor's and the only other college that offered a Master's in Social Work. I felt him with me, encouraging me when I thought I couldn't, wanting me to be positive when I said I can't. And I made it. But then, I couldn't bring myself to thank Him. When I finally did, as clear as day I heard him say, "Just because we're done doesn't mean I'm going to leave you." I had been afraid that without a job to do together, he would be gone. But he hasn't left. He's been with me through my whole career and I give Him the glory for all my success and great reputation. I couldn't have done anything without Him. His grace gives me the strength and the words to say to His children that He puts in my path and I will do my very best to help them to my utmost ability.
I create individual treatment plans based on each person's unique and specific needs and goal(s) using evidenced based therapy such as cognitive behavioral positive self-talk, addressing negative thinking that creates negative moods and behaviors, etc. and promoting positive self-image. I use a variety of Bible verses to support therapy, and believe that God would approve of His children seeking support from each other in His name in their time of need.

"For Where Two or Three are Gathered Together in My Name, There Am I in the Midst of Them."

Come be in the midst with me. I look forward to working with you.

I am so glad I am doing this. Already feel better about my circumstances and feel confident that, with time, I will be able to love myself again and know what God has in store for the rest of my life. Patricia is already like an old friend. I feel very confident sharing with her and she is so engaged in the conversation. Thank you, Patricia and Faithful Counseling!
