"At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can." -Frida Kahlo
I am an energetic and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor from the state of Florida after earning a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University. I have held various positions in the helping field for over 14 years, and have 11 years of clinical experience working with diverse populations and ages-including children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in serving those who have experienced trauma-including, but not limited to: sexual and physical abuse, racial trauma, intimate partner violence, death, grief & loss, incarceration of loved one, and involvement with the foster care system. Furthermore, I have a passion to provide counseling for individuals, couples and families in order that they may resolve related issues they may bring into therapy.
Unfortunately, the darkness in this world is unescapable and whether we experience life’s “big T or little t” traumas, navigating through the aftermath can be complex and daunting. It is courageous of you to seek services to enhance your quality of life. I am passionate about personal empowerment at every age and helping people find light and hope, in order to live their best and most fulfilled lives.
I believe there is both an art and science to therapy. My style is casual, yet professional and ethical, which means that I want to get to know you as a person and understand what challenges you are experiencing in order to partner with you to develop individualized treatment goals. This will be a You-centered therapy experience and reiterate client agency to discern what they need or what is /is not working for you during the therapy process. I am also creative, therefore, my approach is eclectic-including psychoeducation (i.e. symptoms, parenting, etc), talk therapy/evidenced based methods such as, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems (parts work) & Attachment work, along with Mindfulness interventions and even Art Therapy techniques if that's your, so I look forward to exploring and adjusting to what style best meets your needs and personality. I am also certified as a Level 1 EMDR trained Therapist, if you are interested in this type of therapeutic approach. I am empathic, and direct, which may challenge you to extend yourself beyond what you believed about yourself/the situation. My desire is to create a safe space for you to process and grow; to be a guide for you to identify your own strengths to move you to the next season of your life.
My own story and spirituality inspire me to engage in this work; however, it is important to understand that I do not impose my personal beliefs, as I pride myself on professionalism. I certainly look forward to navigating the intersection between faith and mental health, and even though I identify as a Christ follower and can provide Christian counseling, if you are seeking this type of approach; however, I understand that people who identify as Christian vary in their interpretation/expression, so I will continue to take your lead on that (regarding frequency of bringing God into the conversation, prayer, etc.). I am a woman of color (Latina) and I also pride myself on curating a safe space for issues surrounding racial trauma to be discussed. I look forward to meeting you. I am honored to partner with you and come alongside you on your healing journey!
