Hello. I'm Sara. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado. I have a master's degree in counseling, a master's certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and am working on my doctorate degree. I have experience in several areas, including behavior modification, emotion management, conduct problems, ADHD, developmental concerns (i.e., autism), and sexual problems (interests and behaviors) for teens and adults. I currently work as a behavior specialist. Prior to this, I worked as a counselor in a prison setting, in a crisis center, case management, and residential facilities for children and adults. In these settings, I often worked with adolescents with severe behavioral and emotional concerns. I have extensive knowledge of developmental milestones and concerns for teens as well, including children with developmental delays. I primarily use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) in my counseling approach, though I am able to use several techniques and approaches to best meet your needs.
I am a Christian woman, and I come from a line of preachers. I often find lessons from the Bible or recent sermons are applicable in counseling. I freely use these lessons when they will help a client. I have been through periods in my life when I was not connected with Christ and eventually returned to ave a relationship with Him. I know no one is perfect, and as a Christian I accept this. I am not judgmental when anyone acts in a non-Christian manner, as this simply provides opportunities for the person to learn how faith can help even in the darkest of times. I look forward to working with you!
