Hello! Seeking help is often very hard. Everyone needs support at some point and it takes a lot of courage to step out. I respect those who do so a great deal! Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a helper. While it is important to understand about my credentials and approach to therapy, it is also important that you know I respect you and I will be very careful about our counseling relationship. Your health and growth are important to me.
As a wife, adoptive mother, and follower of Christ, I know life can be a very challenging balance. The Word and years of Christian walk have much to add to my counseling practice. I look forward to the possibility of sharing wisdom and hope with you. I have had successful experience in addressing trauma, foster/adoption-related issues, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, family crisis, and other areas of practice.
I have practiced as a counselor since graduating with my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Harding University in 2001. I am currently licensed in Arkansas, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Texas. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families in residential and outpatient settings.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and principles of Emotion Focused Therapy, all with an overarching Systemic perspective, when working with clients. In the online setting, I will tend to also use some Solution-Focused techniques as well.
Whether you chose to work with me or another therapist, I hope you do find what works for you. I believe there is always hope, no matter how small it seems. I know that you have more tools than you feel like you do. I'd love to have the opportunity to help you dig in and find it in your life!

Shiann is truly a gift. She has gone above and beyond to accommodate my counseling needs and provide the best service possible. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for compassionate and thoughtful care.
Thanks for being so helpful and always having the right thing to say.
Kind, compassionate and challenging. All things I need in a counselor.
Shiann has helped me work through many issues, specifically my relationship with several narcissists throughout my life as well as trauma bonding and co-dependency . She is very professional, compassionate and knowledgeable. I highly recommend working with her!!! ❤️
Shiann is a great counselor. Conversations feel like you are talking with a friend, yet are guided in such a way that you get what you need without feeling like you are in a therapy session. She is compassionate, yet not afraid to ask the hard questions - she will virtually hold your hand as you work through them to get to a good place. I have continued to be impressed with her ability to make a virtual session feel like in-person. Highly recommend!
Shiann is a very warm person. She makes me feel like I’m in a safe place. I was worried at first that she would be judgmental and unwelcoming, but she's wonderful.
Shiann is so great. She is so understanding and kind. Has great insight and helps me feel in control of my problems. She has been a great tool in me overcoming a certain specific struggle that I deal with daily.
She is amazing! She gives me room to pray and think but also very insightful. I always appreciate her pure honesty. She tells me what I need to hear, with grace. Not what I want to hear.
So far, my experience with Mrs. Metheny has been wonderful. She is a caring, hard working counselor who is really good at what she does. I thoroughly enjoy working with her and have improved a lot with her since beginning therapy.
Mrs. Shiann Metheny is fantastic. She has definitely helped me overcome some huge obstacles in my life. She is always supportive, caring, and shows so much compassion. I’m so grateful that I was paired with her!
Shiann has been, hands down, one of the best counselors I have ever worked with. She has a very calming presence and gives very good, steady, and knowledgeable advise. I love that she incorporates faith practices, God, and Christian aspects into our time together. She also gives me homework to work on, whether it's a book, finding Bible verses, listening to a podcast, and extra things I can be working on in between our sessions. At the end of the day, I have peace knowing she is in my corner.
