Hello! Seeking help is often very hard. Everyone needs support at some point and it takes a lot of courage to step out. I respect those who do so a great deal! Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a helper. While it is important to understand about my credentials and approach to therapy, it is also important that you know I respect you and I will be very careful about our counseling relationship. Your health and growth are important to me.
As a wife, adoptive mother, and follower of Christ, I know life can be a very challenging balance. The Word and years of Christian walk have much to add to my counseling practice. I look forward to the possibility of sharing wisdom and hope with you. I have had successful experience in addressing trauma, foster/adoption-related issues, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, family crisis, and other areas of practice.
I have practiced as a counselor since graduating with my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Harding University in 2001. I am currently licensed in Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families in residential and outpatient settings.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and principles of Emotion Focused Therapy, all with an overarching Systemic perspective, when working with clients. In the online setting, I will tend to also use some Solution-Focused techniques as well.
Whether you chose to work with me or another therapist, I hope you do find what works for you. I believe there is always hope, no matter how small it seems. I know that you have more tools than you feel like you do. I'd love to have the opportunity to help you dig in and find it in your life!

Shiann is a very warm person. She makes me feel like I’m in a safe place. I was worried at first that she would be judgmental and unwelcoming, but she's wonderful.
Shiann is very approachable and open minded. She has a great way of making me feel at ease and open up. I’m looking forward to more sessions and would recommend her. Added bonus: she has a GREAT sense of humor!
Shiann is so great. She is so understanding and kind. Has great insight and helps me feel in control of my problems. She has been a great tool in me overcoming a certain specific struggle that I deal with daily.
She is amazing! She gives me room to pray and think but also very insightful. I always appreciate her pure honesty. She tells me what I need to hear, with grace. Not what I want to hear.
So far, my experience with Mrs. Metheny has been wonderful. She is a caring, hard working counselor who is really good at what she does. I thoroughly enjoy working with her and have improved a lot with her since beginning therapy.
Mrs. Shiann Metheny is fantastic. She has definitely helped me overcome some huge obstacles in my life. She is always supportive, caring, and shows so much compassion. I’m so grateful that I was paired with her!
Shiann has been, hands down, one of the best counselors I have ever worked with. She has a very calming presence and gives very good, steady, and knowledgeable advise. I love that she incorporates faith practices, God, and Christian aspects into our time together. She also gives me homework to work on, whether it's a book, finding Bible verses, listening to a podcast, and extra things I can be working on in between our sessions. At the end of the day, I have peace knowing she is in my corner.
