Hello, and welcome to Better Help!
My name is Susan Murati, and I am Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts and as a Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania. I am also a Cultural Psychologist.
I have over 17 years of experience doing counseling. Thirteen years were pre- license, and 4 years were since obtaining my first license. I completed my Bachelor's degree at Emmanuel College in Boston in 1973, my Master's in Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1979, and my Doctorate in Psychology (Culture and Human Behavior) at the California School of Professional Psychology in 2003. I have treated clients with many general challenges, from trauma to family conflicts, to depression, anxiety, and ADHD, just to name a few. I also had a private practice for about a year.
I was raised in the Catholic faith, and I have a strong belief in God, who has helped me personally in some major areas and challenges in my life. At times I have prayed with my clients at the beginning or end of a session, if they wish to do so, to make sure that God is recognized as a major part of our work together.
Before COVID-19, my focus was on counseling in person. It is important to me to connect with clients and establish trust and warmth.
Due to this pandemic, Telehealth Video has become more normal and I see that the relationship does not necessarily suffer from not being together in and office, and it can be more convenient for clients to not travel as much.
