Greetings! I am Dr. Schneider. I am a licensed professional counselor holding licenses in both Virginia and Wisconsin. My past formal education includes earning a B.S. degree, majoring in Psychology and Sociology, an M.S. degree, majoring in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Ph.D., majoring in Educational Psychology. My professional experience spans more than 40 years, having worked with adults and persons from diverse cultural backgrounds, and persons who would feel comfortable sharing about their gender identity ("I need to be in the world, but not of the world"), in outpatient clinic settings, a primary health care setting, and intensive in-home community-based settings. My primary counseling approaches include being person-centered, trauma-informed and gender sensitive; using cognitive-behavioral, brief solution-focused, and self-discovery techniques. Also, I believe the mind, body and spirit are inter-connected. Your thoughts, feelings, challenges and goals will be at the center of whatever work we do together. It is how you view the world that matters. It is your journey toward healing and wholeness we will focus on. I highly value and believe each person is unique, and has inherent dignity and worth. I offer a non-judgmental, empathic, and ethical professional presence to assist you to discover your questions, your answers, and, hopefully, discover more clearly “who you are.” Counseling and therapy are not always easy, but exploring your life’s meaning and purpose while working during the healing process is usually well worth the effort. I always encourage and welcome questions. And, one of my favorite lines has always been, “A little humor always helps,” so you can count on that. Please let me know if you have any questions.
