Debra Shelton

About Me

I provide therapy on this website to residents of Tennessee and have been counseling for the past 15 years.

It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take those first steps towards change. I have found that the courage you are now using to seek help can lead to great rewards! I would be honored to work with you. I provide help for a wide range of concerns such as depression, anxiety, grief, sobriety, recovery from narcissistic abuse and other traumas, and life transitions.

My counseling style is interactive, informal, and approachable. My personality is calm and straightforward. I believe in treating one another with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines principles of cognitive behavior therapy and humanistic counseling. In plain English, that means I work with you to understand how your challenges developed, but I also help you learn new problem solving skills that you can also apply to future challenges.

You may or may not know exactly what you need, but if you have the courage to do what it takes to improve things, I'm ready to start walking with you towards your destination. This journey with you will mean that (1) we will look into the past sometimes in order to help you gain insight into your challenges and (2) you will try on some new perspectives and new behaviors in an effort to bring about positive changes in your life.

I will do everything I can to help you better understand your difficulties and get past them. We will determine what goals you want to achieve and from there we will collaborate on how to tackle each of them. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you!
