About Me

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -jeremiah 29:11

Thank you for taking the time to consider me as your counselor. I have a strong passion for social justice, advocating for the rights of vulnerable populations, and working with developing adults. My passion took me from work as a homeless and crisis domestic violence case manager after college, to graduate school for my masters in social work. I have worked mainly with children and teenagers, focusing on stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and lots of different social and relational issues. I have experience in working with social anxiety, Autism, ADHD, and developmental disabilities. I have experience working with Christian counseling and can provide biblically-based counseling to those interested. I have volunteered and served in my ministry in various roles of leadership and teaching for the past 10 years.

I have experience working with personality disorders, mood disorders, sexual disorders, and various trauma-based concerns. I have my Bachelors of Psychology and my Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Clinical Social Work Licensure, and my school endorsement (Type 73). I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational-Emotive Therapy, Christian Counseling, Motivational Interviewing, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy techniques. I have certifications in Mindfulness Techniques and Crisis Intervention Prevention. I will listen, try to understand what your therapy goals are, and meet you where you are at. There are no bad questions, there is no one whose situation is hopeless. I hope you will start your journey to a better spot with me today.

Heather was very quick to understand the dynamic between my wife and myself ... Within the very first 50 minute session she'd already helped each of us to have deep insights into the other's feelings and needs.
