About me
Sometimes life can be overwhelming and we all need help from time to time. Sometimes the help we need is just an ear to hear all the things we need to say, but have no one to whom we can say it. Sometimes we need someone who is outside our context to give us an objective perspective on our circumstances. Sometimes, what we really need is someone to call us on the nonsense we have been telling ourselves.
Hi, My name is Jon and I am here to fill all those roles and more (if you need it.) I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oregon and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I have my Master's in Counseling from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon. In the last ten years, I have provided counseling in a variety of contexts from community clinics to college to jails. I am kind and compassionate and do not shy away from saying what needs to be said to help you achieve your goals. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, mindfulness and solution focused strategies to assist you in working through whatever challenges you are facing. Through it all, I rely on you to be the expert on your own life and see my role as a sort of consultant offering suggestions to help you get where you want to be.
I have worked with people of all ages and stages of life and I have worked with individuals and couples. I have worked with people experiencing depression, anxiety, career challenges, trauma, body image issues, low self-esteem, grief/loss, parenting and guilt/shame issues. As a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, I am also familiar with the military context and the variety of traumas that can result from service.
I have been a Christian for most of my life, having grown up in conservative non-denominational churches. Having been a part of "The Church" for so long, I have observed and experienced some of the damaging beliefs and practices that sometimes creep into otherwise healthy and faithful congregations. Having spent many years in independent study and getting some formal education at Western Seminary, I feel confident helping people identify whether beliefs or practices are consistent with what the Bible says.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Jon Kauffman. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Faithful Counseling might be different.
Jon has been an outstanding therapist for me for the last year or so. I first saw Jon for anxiety and he has helped me tremendously. Jon has guided me to view my thoughts and feelings in a different light. I strongly recommend Jon Kauffman.
I have appreciated the way Jon is willing to address any situation that I have encountered. He does not belittle or mock me for the way I think about things but sheds light on a better way to address a situation.
