I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and currently a Ph.D. candidate in Counseling and Psychological Services, with a Marriage and Family Ministry specialization. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work as well as a Master's in Social Work. I hold a Pupil Personnel Services, with over twenty years of experience working within schools, child welfare systems, other social service organizations, and private practice to support individuals and families. I am also a social work educator for ten years in a faith-based university, teaching courses to emerging professionals at the college level. I teach courses that focus on social work practice skills, domestic violence studies, cultural humility, and ethical faith integration in service and research. I also volunteer as a patrol chaplain for local law enforcement, working with individuals and families exposed to trauma. I am humbled by how God allows me to be part of such holy work when responding to such tragedy in the community.
I call myself a "first generation" believer, coming to the Christian faith in my early college years and attending church as a young adult without my family. Not being raised in the church and having experienced challenges as a child and young adult, I now see how God laid a path for me to serve Him by serving others. I recognize following God can be challenging when experiencing hurt and pain, and there are times in our lives when we need to share our experiences with someone trusted. I am passionate about supporting individuals and families to thrive in life. I do believe people are innately resilient and able to grow from adverse circumstances. My goal is to foster a partnership in the counseling relationship, where respect and dignity are valued. I take the role of counseling as sacred because of the courage it takes to work on oneself. I acknowledge and value people's life experiences, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to support healing and recovery in the counseling journey.

Having Sonia as my therapist has been one of God’s greatest blessings in my life this past year. Truly and earnestly I mean that. Doing the work of mental health is hard work but having Sonia to come alongside me up, and support me has been so helpful. During her sessions and over the course of our time together, I really feel like I’m starting to learn and grow and Understand more about how I show up in my life.
